About Me

It was right around the time I found out we'd be expecting our second child that I decided to take my health seriously. People who know me know I've never been athletic - never played team sports or even got regular exercise. I downhill ski raced competitively as a teenager, but was never very good at it. I've mountain biked from time to time, but only casually. I've been blessed with a metabolism that means I can lead a relatively sedentary lifestyle and still look thin, so there's never really been any motivation to get in shape.

But every time I got a checkup at the doctor they'd tell me to exercise more, and I have a history of heart disease in my family. Besides cardiovascular health, exercise is associated with a reduced cancer risk, and I figure cancer and heart disease are the two things most likely to kill me.

To make a long story short, my efforts to adopt a healthy lifestyle ended up resulting in me becoming a triathlete. It was a surprising turn of events, but over the past couple of years the bike trainer, the treadmill, and the pool have become regular parts of my week. Training and healthy eating are now major aspects of my life.

Since the beginning of this transformation I've seen my fitness progress, and I've achieved some goals while some remain out of reach (for now). Along the ways I've welcomed my third child into the world... another challenge with great rewards.

Life moves forward, new challenges arise, and I do my best to learn and adapt.
